HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team was selected to participate in the eight-team NCAA South Regional as the No. 4 seed on Sunday night at its selection show at Salmon Library on the UAH campus. The regional will be hosted by top-seeded Rollins at Warden Arena in Winter Park, Fla.

The Lady Chargers were awarded their first-ever berth into the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament as the field of 64 was announced on the NCAA.com selection show.

The Lady Chargers (23-6) will open regional play on Friday, March 9, at the Warden Arena against fifth-seeded Delta State (21-6). The programs competing in the NCAA South Regional, along with respective seedings, are listed below:

1. Rollins
2. Florida Southern
3. Fort Valley State
4. UAH
5. Delta State
6. Valdosta State
7. Florida Tech
8. West Alabama

The fourth-seeded Lady Chargers are making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Under the direction of head coach Roy Heintz for the past three years, the UAH program has made an impressive turnaround. The Lady Chargers, who finished the 2009-10 season with a record of 4-20, recently concluded play in its first-ever GSC Championship game earlier on Sunday afternoon where the squad unfortunately fell to West Alabama.

This year's squad carries a record of 23-6 – the second-most victories in a single season in UAH history.

The winner of the NCAA South Regional will play the winner of the NCAA Southeast Regional, which includes S.C. Aiken, Clayton State, Wingate and Lander as its top-four seeds, in the NCAA Elite 8 in San Antonio, Texas on March 20-23.
