VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team saw its season come to a close, staying alive with a 6-1 win over Tuskegee before falling 5-2 to Valdosta State at the NCAA South 1 Regional on Saturday evening. The Chargers close the season at 40-16.
 
The 40-win campaign is the 18th straight for the program.
 
The contests marked the final ones for seniors Morgan Hopkins, Victoria Frith and Michal Robertson.
 
With her team facing elimination, Emily Glover was terrific in the circle for UAH in the win over Tuskegee as she carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and ultimately finished the game giving up just one hit while allowing an unearned run.
 
Neither team had much going offensively in the early stages of the game, but the Chargers capitalized on Golden Tiger miscues in the fourth to take the lead in the contest as Savannah Smith scored when Robertson reached on an error. Making it a 2-0 lead, Robertson scurried home on a passed ball, and the Chargers went ahead 3-0 when Haley Thompson doubled to left to score Victoria Crumpton who had singled in the previous at-bat.
 
After the unearned run scored for Tuskegee in the bottom of the fifth, the Chargers answered back with another three-spot in the seventh as Kaitlyn Bannister and Abby Roberts both doubled in runs while Tyler Harrison singled in a score before Glover retired the side in order to secure the game.
 
UAH outhit the Golden Tigers 8-1 in the contest with Roberts pacing the team with a pair.
 
In the nightcap, it was the long ball that won the contest for Valdosta as all five runs scored on home runs. Fran Johnson recorded a pair of homers including a solo shot in the first and another in the fifth. Kiley Rusen's two-run homer in the third and Heather Robinson's in the seventh rounded out the scoring.
 
UAH matched the run scored in the first off of Johnson's blast when Abby Roberts grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to plate Victoria Frith to tie it at 1-1, and the Chargers would cut into their two-run deficit in the fourth when Smith raced home from second on a bobbled ball on the infield dirt to turn it into a 3-2 game at that point.
 
Junior Kimberly Jack was charged with the loss for the Chargers in the circle, tossing 4.2 innings and giving up four hits and three runs.
 
Valdosta State held the edge in hits in the contest, collecting eight to UAH's five.
