HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 2 UAH men's basketball team begins a four-game road trip this weekend, playing a pair of games at the Roundball Classic hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. The Chargers will take on St. Augustine's at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday before facing the host institution on Sunday with tip scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.
The Blue and White kicked the 2011-12 campaign off in fine fashion on Monday as it blasted Fisk out of Spragins Hall by an 89-65 score.
Four Chargers reached double-digits in scoring while two others both recorded eight points, and the Blue and White recorded an assist on 25 of its 31 successful attempts from the field.
A trio of juniors had particularly strong starts to the season as forward
Zane Campbell recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds,
Jaime Smith led the squad with 15 points while adding in seven assists, and
Xavier Baldwin scored 12 first-half points en route to ending the evening with 14.
As a unit, the Chargers shot nearly 60 percent for the game.
The Chargers will look to improve upon last year's 4-3 record in neutral site games when it takes on the Falcons on Saturday. The contest marks the first between the two schools.
Owning a record of 1-0, St. Augustine's knocked off Talladega in its season opener by an 86-77 score, and the Falcons will square off against Catawba on Friday night. Joel Kindred led the way for Saturday's opponent in its win by scoring 28 points.
Away from Spragins Hall in 2010-11, the Blue and White registered an impressive 11-1 mark, and the team will attempt to start this season's true road slate out with a victory in the first-ever meeting with Catawba on Sunday.
The Indians have split their first two contests leading into the Friday night game against St. Augustine's, losing 95-89 in overtime to Pfeiffer before pulling out an 88-72 triumph over Morris. Keon Moore sits on top of the Catawba ledger as he has scored 52 points in the two games – including a 30-point showing in the OT setback.
