UAH Drops Close Contest With Harding

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Playing its third game in four days, the No. 2 UAH men's basketball team dropped a tight affair with visiting Harding by a 65-63 score on Monday night at Spragins Hall. The loss drops the Chargers to 4-2 while the Bisons move to 2-1 on the season.

Jaime Smith led the Chargers in scoring in the loss as he tallied 20 points on the evening, while Josh Magette recorded his third double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 assists. The senior from Birmingham, Ala., also picked up three steals and blocked two shots while tying for the team lead in rebounds with six.

Zane Campbell, Xavier Baldwin and Conner Blasi all matched Magette with the six boards.

The Chargers fell in an early hole, trailing 12-3 at the 15:45 mark of the opening stanza, but the Blue and White ripped off a 15-0 run over the next five minutes to grab an 18-12 advantage. The hosts built up as much as an eight-point advantage in the period, but the Bisons chipped away to create a 29-28 score in favor of UAH at the half.

Though not as strong as in the first half, Harding began the second stanza to regain the lead, eventually grabbing a 60-51 lead with 3:40 left in the contest.

Battling back, the Chargers scored the next nine points on a run that was punctuated by three free throws from Smith after he was fouled beyond the arc to produce a 61-60 advantage for the Chargers.

The Bisons iced the contest, however, by connecting on five of their six free throws down the stretch to create the 65-63 final.

UAH outshot the visitors by a 41.2 percent to 39.6 percent clip on the evening, though the Bisons held a 39-35 advantage on the glass.

The Chargers will look to regroup when they welcome Oakwood to Spragins Hall at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
