Groupierre Lands on All-GSC Women's Tennis Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced the 2013 Women's Tennis All-GSC Teams on Thursday, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by freshman Jessica Groupierre who earned a position on the Second Team after a strong debut season.

The Paris, France, native posted a strong 8-9 record playing against the best the opposition had to offer as she played at the No. 1 position in singles, and two of her setbacks came to nationally ranked opponents. She was particularly strong at the beginning of the year when she began her collegiate career with a five-match winning streak.

The freshman registered four 6-0 sets during the season in singles action with her most dominating performance being a 6-0, 6-1 win at Reinhardt on March 1, and she also owned a pair of three-set victories.

In doubles play, Groupierre was 7-10 and played at all three positions at one point or another during the season. She teamed up with Katie Bryant for an 8-0 win over Delta State on March 28.

Groupierre helped guide the squad to the quarterfinals of the GSC Women's Tennis Championships, and she will be looked to as a key member of the team going into next season as the squad hopes to build upon an 8-11 year during the 2013 campaign.

West Florida swept the individual awards of the All-GSC announcement with Monika Kochanova taking home the Player of the Year honor. Nina Bubelova was honored as the Freshman of the Year and the Argo skipper Derrick Racine was chosen as the Coach of the Year.

Voting is conducted by the league's head coaches.
