UAH Blows Past North Alabama for 12th Win

FLORENCE, Ala. – Using a dominating performance in doubles to set the tone for the match, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team throttled host North Alabama by a 7-2 score on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 12-10 (3-4 Gulf South Conference), while UNA falls to 3-10 (2-5 GSC).

“I am really pleased with the effort and energy the guys came out with,” Head Coach Daniel Finn stated following the contest. “We have a lot of emphasis on doubles, and we really came out and showed it today. This is definitely the time of year you want to play your best.”

In doubles play, the Chargers started things off with an 8-4 win from Jose Soto and Nestor Perez at the first position, and then the third pairing of Christopher Kano and Raphael Oliveira teamed up for an 8-3 victory. Giving the visitors a 3-0 lead, Fredrik Graaner and Guillermo Reyes were 8-4 winners at the No. 2 doubles match.

Placing the Chargers just a point away from victory, Soto made quick work of his opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 singles match, and Kano sealed the day for the Blue and White when he won 6-2, 6-2 at the fourth position.

Perez (6-2, 6-3) and Reyes (6-3, 6-0) gave UAH its other two points with strong wins at the third and sixth spots, respectively.

The Chargers have added a match at Alabama A&M on Thursday at 2 p.m. and will close out the regular season then.
