UAH Drops Series Finale to Bowling Green, 4-1

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville (0-4-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) hockey team dropped the series finale to WCHA rival Bowling Green (3-1-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) on Saturday night at the VBC Propst Arena by a final score of 4-1.

The first period went scoreless between the Chargers and Falcons, as defense played a major role in the first 20 minutes of the game. Sophomore Matt Larose held strong in goal for UAH, amassing 15 saves in the period compared to BGSU's Tommy Sholl who stopped seven shots in the period.

Bowling Green's Brandon Hawkins broke the scoreless tie at the 2:39 mark in the second period to go ahead 1-0. The Falcons went on to score two more times in the second at 8:13 by Jakob Reichart and at 14:51 by Kevin Dufour. Hawkins' and Dufour's goals both came on power plays against UAH.

Junior Frank Misuraca scored the first UAH home goal of the season in the final two minutes of the period to cut Bowling Green's lead to 3-1. Brent Fletcher notched an assist on the goal.

The Falcons added one more goal in the third period at the 13:22 mark by Dufour, his second of the game, to bring the game to its final score of 4-1.

Larose finished with a season-high 44 saves after stopping 14 shots in the second and 15 in the third. The sophomore has now totaled back-to-back contests with 40 saves or more.

The Chargers will head out on the road for the next series at Minnesota State on Oct. 24-25. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. for both games.
