HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team fell to visiting No. 19 West Florida on Friday night, dropping a 3-0 decision at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UWF improves to 16-2 (9-0 Gulf South Conference), while UAH slips to 14-4 (5-4 GSC).
The Chargers will aim to bounce back on Saturday as Valdosta State visits with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
The first set was tightly contested as West Florida earned a narrow 25-23 decision in the frame. UAH racked up 15 kills in the set compared to 12 for West Florida, but nine attack errors by the Chargers in the set would prove to be the difference.
UWF went on to win the second set 25-21 and wrapped up the contest with a 25-18 win in the third set.
Helping her team match West Florida's dig total of 42,
Anna Claire Johnson recorded a double-double in the game as she dug out 10 balls to go along with 14 kills, and both of those numbers paced the Chargers.
Kirsten Giles dished out 27 assists while also tallying a pair of service aces.
For the match, the Chargers held UWF under their season hitting percentage of .242, but the visitors outhit UAH by a .231 to .125 clip.
