UAH Plays to 1-1 Draw on Senior Day at Charger Park

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Lee on Sunday in UAH's home finale at Charger Park. UAH moves to 4-8-1 (2-3-1 Gulf South Conference) with the tie, while Lee goes to 8-5-1 (3-2-1 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-With the game tied at 1-1 and in the first overtime period, reserve goalkeeper Gabriel Chilas – who had entered the game in the 52nd minute due to an injury to starter Myles Fullen – recorded back-to-back tremendous saves in the 96th and 97th minutes to ultimately preserve the draw.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The teams traded goals in the first half with David Perez opening the scoring for Lee in the 24th minute as he recorded his eighth goal of the season.
-Hermann Bjornsson had an answer for the Chargers when he tallied 12 minutes later in the 36th on a goal that was assisted by Daniel Buchanan.
-Neither team was able to produce any scoring through the remainder of the game, though the Chargers had a golden opportunity with Bjornsson's strong attempt in the 95th being stopped only by a terrific stop by Lee's keeper Daniel Hrenko.
-For the game, the visitors held a 17-15 edge in total shots, but shots on target were event at eight for both sides.
-Fullen made a pair of saves before having to give way to Chilas who finished the night with five stops.
-James Narke finished with a team-best six attempts on the night, and four of his shots were on goal.
-UAH held a 6-5 edge in corners.
 
Noteworthy
-Chilas made his collegiate debut in the contest.
-The game marked the final one in Huntsville for the team's three seniors Bjornsson, Ian Dempsey, and Nathan Strouth. The three were honored with a special ceremony prior to the game.
-The goal for Bjornsson marks his sixth of the season which ranks him second among UAH players, and he is also now second on the team with 15 points.
-The draw is the first for UAH since playing to a 1-1 draw in the GSC tournament semifinals against West Alabama (UWA advanced on PKs) on Nov. 7, 2014, and it is the first in regular season play since a 1-1 final at Montevallo on Oct. 24, 2014.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will continue GSC play next Friday when the team travels to take on West Florida. Kickoff in Pensacola is slated for 7:30 p.m.
