UAH Tripped Up in Series Opener by Bowling Green

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team was tripped up by Bowling Green in the opening game of a two-game WCHA series by a final score of 4-1 on Friday night at the Von Braun Center. UAH slips to 4-9-2 (4-5-2 WCHA), while BGSU improves to 5-7-1 (4-3-0 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- After UAH took a 1-0 lead into the third period, Bowling Green broke through with a total of four goals in the third for the 4-1 win, with the game-winner coming at 9:15 of the stanza by Tyler Spezia.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Following a scoreless first period from both teams, Kurt Gosselin ended the scoreless tie with his fourth goal of the year at 12:59 of the second frame. Gosselin was assisted by Cam Knight and Brent Fletcher on the play.
- However after second intermission, BGSU's Luc-Pierre Mercier knotted the contest at 1-1 at 2:16 of the third period prior to the game-winning goal by Spezia at 9:15.
- The Falcons went on to add a goal at 18:52 of the third by Mercier for his second of the game prior to John Schilling sending in an empty netter at 19:28 for the 4-1 final.
- Senior Carmine Guerriero's record in goal drops to 0-2-0 following a season-high 29 saves and three goals allowed.
- The Chargers put a total of 20 shots on goal, paced by Gosselin's four shots on target.
- Josh Kestner, Brandon Parker and John Teets tied for the team-high in blocked shots with three apiece.
 
Noteworthy
- Gosselin has recorded at least one point in his last five games, and owns six points overall from three goals and three assists in that span.
- Fletcher's assist was the first helper of his senior campaign.

- The Chargers and Falcons look ahead to Saturday night for the series finale at the Von Braun Center. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m.
