HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell to Bowling Green in the WCHA series finale at the Von Braun Center by a final score of 5-0 on Saturday night in the Chargers last game of the 2015-16 campaign. UAH ends the season at 7-21-6 (5-17-6 WCHA), while BGSU improves to 20-12-6 (16-7-5 WCHA).
After both teams went scoreless through the midway point of the first period, Bowling Green took the early 1-0 lead at 12:00 of the opening frame on a goal by Brett D'Andrea which would stand heading into first intermission.
The Falcons went on to add two goals in the second and another pair of tallies in the third en route to the 5-0 victory to wrap up the 2015-16 season. BGSU's markers came at 6:47 and 19:04 of the second by John Schilling and Stephen Baylis, respectively, while the two third period goals were scored by Brandon Hawkins at 7:10 and Baylis at 13:16.
Junior
Carmine Guerriero took the loss in net to slip his season record to 2-14-2 on the year. The Montreal, Quebec, native totaled 31 saves in the contest, which gives Guerriero nine games of 30 or more saves in 2015-16.
The Chargers put a total of 24 shots on net, with BGSU's netminder Chris Nell stopping all of the UAH attempts for the shutout. Senior
Chad Brears led the way with five shots on goal.
The UAH hockey program honored four seniors prior to Saturday's contest, as Brears,
Frank Misuraca,
Jack Prince and
Anderson White each played in their final games in the Blue and White.
