UAH Closes Inaugural Campaign with Loss at YHC

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse remarkable inaugural season came to a close on Sunday with a 17-7 loss at Young Harris in the finals of the Gulf South Conference invitational tournament. UAH finishes the season with a 14-4 record, while YHC improves to 13-5.
 
GSC Freshman of the Year Nicole Federovitch paced the UAH offense with four points on three goals and four assists, while Sierra Luciano led the defense with five ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
 
UAH had a trio of honorees on the GSC All-Tournament team in Haleigh Comp, Megan Olivia Hart and Luciano.
 
Young Harris stormed out of the gate with a pair of goals two minutes into the contest, with UAH scoring its first goals of the game at 19:01 to slim the Mountain Lions lead to 2-1.
 
However, YHC went on to outscore UAH 6-2 over the remaining 19 minutes of the opening half to own an 8-3 lead at the break. Federovitch chipped in her second and third goals of the game at 11:31 and 1:03.
 
The Mountain Lions continued to push the tempo with eight goals compared to the Chargers one in the first 14 minutes of the second period to lead 16-4. UAH's Hart ended a string of five-straight goals to begin the frame with a goal at 20:10.
 
The Chargers made a late push with three consecutive goals by Hart at 10:23, Elizabeth Brown at 8:47 and Luciano at 7:26, but a late goal by Young Harris' Sarah Bialecki brought the game to its 17-7 final in favor of the hosts.
 
Comp finished with a 14-4 record in goal for the season, compiling 10 saves and a team-best six ground balls in the loss.
