FLORENCE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team was eliminated from the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championships on Friday, dropping a 9-1 decision in six innings to West Florida. The Chargers drop to 38-15, while UWF improves to 39-14.

The Chargers will now await word on their NCAA tournament fate, and the seeding for the upcoming NCAA South 1 and South 2 Regionals will be announced as part of a selection show on Monday morning.

West Florida opened up the scoring in the first with a three-run inning, and that was matched by the Argos in the bottom of the fourth when they scored three more times to go up 6-0.

UAH's lone run came in the top of the sixth, cutting the UWF lead to 6-1 when
Emily Glover on a fielder's choice allowing
Savannah Smith to scurry home from third, but West Florida ended the game early by posting another three-run frame in the bottom of the sixth to create the 9-1 final.

The Chargers had chances to cut into their deficit throughout the game, leaving runners on base in all but one of their six trips to the plate, and two of UAH's best chances came in the second when the team had runners at first and second with one out and in the third when the first two runners singled to start the inning.

For the contest, West Florida outhit the Chargers 15-7, and
Kaitlyn Bannister and
Sarah Jordan both had a pair of hits in the game.

One of Jordan's hits was a double, giving her four on the season.

The Chargers drew three more walks in the contest, moving their season total to 229 which is just five off of the program record of 234 set in 2006.

Taylor Doriety picked up the loss in the circle, earning a loss for the first time this season as she moves to 5-1 on the year.
