HUNTSVILLE | The 12th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Miles on Thursday afternoon at Charger Park, winning 12-2 and 14-1 in a pair of run-ruled shortened games. The Chargers improve to 33-9 with the victories, while Miles drops to 13-28.

UAH will take Friday off to travel to the Peach State where the team will battle rival Valdosta State this weekend beginning with a 12 p.m. CDT doubleheader on Saturday.

UAH 12, Miles 2Â
Abby Roberts was the star of the day's first contest, knocking in the game's first runs and ending the contest with a grand slam in the fifth to finish the contest 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBI and two runs.

The homer was the sixth of the season for Roberts who moved her season RBI total to 41 after knocking in another pair in the second game.
Â
The Chargers scored three times in the first, four times in the second, added another in the fourth, and the four from the Roberts grand slam in the fifth while outhitting Miles 13-4.

Matching the three hits from Roberts was
Lexi Beach who also drove in a run, while
Brianna Sullivan and
Sarah Jordan both picked up a pair of hits.

Kaitlyn Bannister belted her 12th home run of the year while also being intentionally walked three times, and her three-run shot lifts her to a nation-leading 55 RBI on the season.

Going the distance in the circle and moving to 5-2 on the year was
Kimberly Jack.

UAH 14, Miles 1Â
Savannah Smith collected three of UAH's 14 hits in the nightcap including one of the team's five doubles, and she drove in three runs to be one of five player who finished the game knocking in multiple runs as
Rachel Burden,
Taylor Wascavage,
Jada Hayes, and Roberts all picked up two RBI.

Burden finished the contest 2-for-3 while belting her second homer of the season.
Â
Roberts, Jordan, and Hayes all also recorded a pair of hits, while Sullivan drew one of four walks by the Chargers to extend her on-base streak to 17 games.

Picking up the win in the circle was
Taylor Doriety who improved to 3-0 on the season by scattering three hits, giving up just an unearned run, and striking out four, and
Emily Glover tossed a perfect final pair of frames.
