HUNTSVILLE| The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team fell to Young Harris in its regular season home finale by a final score of 17-16 on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park in a Gulf South Conference matchup. UAH dips to 11-3 (2-1 GSC), while YHC improves to 9-5 (1-0 GSC)
Â
The UAH offense was paced by
Natalie Pachinger with nine points on eight goals and one assist while also adding a team-best five ground balls and six draw controls.
Â
The outset of the contest was a back-and-forth affair, as
Nicole Federovitch scored twice in the opening eight minutes of play, with Jaclyn Kernohan striking twice for the Mountain Lions in the same stretch.
Â
After the early goals, the Chargers went on to outscore the Mountain Lions 9-6 to end the initial 30 minutes and own an 11-8 lead heading into the half.
Â
Pachinger led the way in the first period with four markers, while Federovitch and
Bekka San Souci each had three tallies apiece.
Â
The Chargers struck first in the second half as Pachinger scored again for UAH at 20:26, but that marker was negated by a YHC goal at 18:10 by Maddie Peek.
Â
UAH then proceed to score four straight goals to push the lead to 16-9 with 12:45 to play in the second. Pachinger scored three times during that span, while
Megan Olivia Hart added one goal.
Â
However, Young Harris was able to take control of the game down the stretch with eight unanswered goals en route to the 17-16 conference victory.
Â
Haleigh Comp's record slips to 11-3 in goal for UAH, despite accruing a season-high 12 saves in the loss.
Â
The Chargers will hit the road for a pair of contests to close out the regular season with trips slated to Truett McConnell on Thursday and North Greenville on Saturday.
