Kranjc Earns 300th Win as Chargers Roll in GSC Opener

POSTGAME REACTION
HUNTSVILLE | Providing head coach Chris Kranjc with his 300th career victory, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team throttled visiting Delta State 5-1 at Charger Park on Friday night. UAH improves to 3-5-0 (1-0-0 Gulf South Conference) with the triumph, while DSU slips to 3-5-0 (1-3-0 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-James Narke scored just under two minutes into the second half off a corner from Hermann Bjornsson to set the tone for the stanza in which UAH would outscore the visitors 4-1 to cruise to the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Bjornsson opened the scoring with a finish from distance in the 15th minute, and his score would be the lone tally of the opening half.
-After Narke scored in the 47th, he would strike again in the 63rd as UAH made a strong counter off a Delta State corner. Gunnar Birgisson and Guy Clennett assisted on UAH's third goal.
-Delta State had a quick answer in the 64th when Juan Brito scored, making the contest 3-1.
-Clennett then iced the contest just over 10 minutes later in the 74th with Khalil Bel assisting on the score, and Bell made it a 5-1 game when he scored in the 87th from Daniel Buchanan.
-Myles Fullen earned his third win of the season, registering a pair of saves en route to his first GSC victory.
-UAH held a wide 20-9 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
 
Noteworthy
-Kranjc entered the year with 297 victories after his storied career at Hastings College in Nebraska where he won 16 conference titles and the 2010 NAIA national championship.
-The five goals represent the highest total for UAH in a conference affair since scoring seven in a win against Harding on Oct. 1, 2006.
-Narke's two-goal night marks his first multi-goal performance of the season, and the Omaha, Nebraska, native now has scored four times in the past three games for the Blue and White.
-With his assist on the opening score of the night, Corentin Diverres earns his first collegiate point.
-Bjornsson's three-point showing keeps him at the top of the UAH offensive ledger with nine points, while the senior and Narke are tied for the team lead in goals as both have four.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will have Saturday off before entertaining Mississippi College on Sunday with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. The Choctaws knocked off West Alabama 1-0 in Livingston on Friday night.
