UAH Slips in Series Finale at Lake Superior State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team slipped in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series finale at Lake Superior State by a final score of 4-1 on Saturday night at Abel Arena. UAH slips to 7-17-2 (7-11-2 WCHA), while LSSU improves to 11-12-3 (8-9-3 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- After UAH tied the contest at 1-1 prior to the midway point of the second period, Lake Superior State's Gage Torrel provided the game-winning goal at 16:41 of the middle frame en route to the 4-1 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
- The Lakers were first on the board on Saturday as Collin Saccoman gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at 12:31 of the first which would stand heading into intermission.
- The Chargers rebounded to tie the contest at 6:36 of the second period on Brandon Salerno's third goal of the season, assisted by both Josh Kestner and Cam Knight.
- However, Lake Superior State would score three unanswered goals at 16:41 of the second by Torrel, at 7:34 of the third by James Roll and at 11:10 of the third by Max Humitz to round out the series sweep of UAH.
- Carmine Guerriero's record slips to 0-7-0 on the season after allowing four goals and totaling 25 saves.
- The Chargers outshot the Lakers 35-29, with Salerno registering a team-high five shots on target in the loss.
 
Noteworthy
- Knight now has 10 assists in 10 of the Chargers last WCHA contests.
- Kestner has recorded one point in both games of a WCHA series four times this season.
- Salerno has registered at least one point in each of the past three games.
 
Next Time Out
- UAH returns to Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center next Friday and Saturday night with a visit from Michigan Tech. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. both nights next weekend.
