HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team slipped in the series opener against Bemidji State by a final score of 3-2 at Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center on Friday night. UAH slips to 8-20-3 (8-14-3 WCHA), while now-MacNaughton Cup Champion Bemidji State improves to 19-11-3 (19-4-2 WCHA).

Turning Point
- Bemidji State opened the scoring on Friday night with a trio of unanswered goals by Nate Arentz at 12:06 of the second, Gerry Fitzgerald at 1:15 of the third and Jay Dickman at 6:00 of the third as the Beavers went on to win the contest 3-2.

- A total of nine shots on goal were recorded between both teams in the scoreless opening period at the VBC, with UAH starting goaltender
Jordan Uhelski notching five saves while the Chargers put four shots on net.
- The scoring drought ended after the midway point of the second period when Arentz notched the Beavers first goal at 12:06 of the third for a 1-0 lead, which would stand after 40 minutes of play.
- Bemidji State quickly added to its advantage in the third period as Fitzgerald scored at 1:15 on the power play prior to Dickman making it a 3-0 lead at 6:00.
- Undeterred, the Chargers ended the Beavers shutout bid as
Brennan Saulnier knocked home a rebound on the power play at 7:46 of the third to slim the lead to 3-1. Saulnier's goal was assisted by fellow juniors
Max McHugh and
Brandon Parker.
- UAH again cut the lead to 3-2 less than a minute after Saulnier's tally as senior captain
Brent Fletcher scored at 8:24 of the third. Both
Connor James and
Cam Knight were credited with assists on the play.
- Uhelski slipped to 6-8-3 with the loss, despite accruing 22 saves in the contest.
- The Chargers registered a total of 19 shots on goal in the loss, led by Parker with five.
