Â
Inside the Box Score
Â-In picking up her seventh win of the season Harrison retired Delta State in order to start the game, and the senior struck out a batter in six of the seven innings including five frames in which she picked up a pair of strikeouts.
-Four different Chargers accounted for the team's four hits, but none was bigger than Cornell's long fly that came in the fourth inning to put the home team ahead 3-0.
-Other hits in the game came from
Brooke Miller,
Erin Jewell, and
Shannon Long, and Jewell's was a double.
-The team's fourth run came in the sixth when pinch hitter
Jada Hayes drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a 4-0 game.
-The walk from Hayes was one of six that the Chargers collected in the game, and Harrison walked a team-high two times.
Â
Key Plays
-Neither team had a hit until the fourth inning when Delta State singled twice, and after Harrison left those two runners on base, the Chargers went to work as Miller drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sac bunt from Jewell before Long legged out an infield single to third.
-Two batters later, Cornell connected on the two-out bomb to left-center to put the Chargers in front 3-0.
-Harrison kept her momentum going with a three-up, three-down top of the fifth and sixth, and the hosts then tacked on the fourth run in the bottom half of the sixth when Miller singled, Jewell doubled, and Long was hit by a pitch to start the inning, loading the bases for Hayes who drew a walk to plate the run and create the eventual 4-0 final.
