UAH Completes Weekend Sweep with 2-1 Victory Over AUM

HUNTSVILLE | A pair of first-half goals would stand up on Sunday as The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team defeated visiting Auburn Montgomery at Charger Park. UAH improves to 6-4-1 (4-1-1 Gulf South Conference), while AUM slips to 2-9-1 (1-4-1 GSC).
 
Turning Points
-Khalil Bell opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as he scored an unassisted tally, and he then assisted on Rafa Moreno's strike in the 39th that give UAH a 2-0 lead.
-The score remained that way until the 72nd minute when Cedarian Brunelle scored for AUM, but the Chargers would hold the visitors at bay the rest of the way to seal the 2-1 decision.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers held a wide 12-3 advantage in shots including a 6-1 margin in attempts on target, and UAH also enjoyed a 3-1 lead in corners for the game.
-Each of Vicente Arratia, Connor Young, Moreno, and Bell had a team-best two shots, and Bell and Moreno led the Chargers with two attempts each that were on frame.
-Myles Fullen earned the win in goal for UAH.
-There were a total of 38 fouls whistled in the game, and the referee went to the book on six occasions.
 
Noteworthy
-Bell has now recorded multiple points in four contests this season, and his three-point showing on Sunday matches his season high set previously against Delta State on Sept. 14.
-Bell also moves back into second on the team in scoring with 11 points on the year.
-Moreno's goal is his team-best 10th of the season, and he ranks second in the GSC in goals.
-The Chargers sit fourth in the GSC standings with 13 points, but the team is just three points behind league-leading West Florida and Lee who sit on 16 points.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers go on a two-game road swing to the Gulf Coast next weekend, starting with a Friday tilt at Spring Hill – who is in third at a perfect 5-0-0 in GSC play – that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
