Sinclair Records First Career Shutout as UAH Wins 1-0 at Michigan Tech

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team shut out Michigan Tech by a final score of 1-0 on Friday night at MacInnes Ice Arena to open a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series. UAH improves to 3-14-0 (3-8-0 WCHA), while MTU dips to 9-7-1 (8-2-1 WCHA).

Turning Point
- The Chargers were on the board early with a one-timer goal from the blue line by Bailey Newton at the 10:30 mark of the first period to give UAH the early lead, and the squad would not look back as it went on to win the contest by a 1-0 final on Friday. Both John Teets and Connor Merkley picked up assists on the tally.

Inside the Box Score
- Mark Sinclair had one of the most outstanding performances in goal for the Chargers in the past 15 years, as he stopped all 39 of the Huskies shots and navigated four MTU power-play chances on the night.
- Sinclair averaged 13 saves per period in the contest, including a game-high 18 stops in the second period.
- The Chargers totaled 17 shots on goal, paced by Christian Rajic with three shots saved.

Noteworthy
- Sinclair's shutout is just the second for the program this decade, as Matt Larose recorded the most recent in team history on Oct. 31, 2015 against Lake Superior State.
- His 39 saves on Friday are the most by a Charger in a shutout since Scott Monroe had 39 against Robert Morris on Feb. 26, 2005.
- First win for UAH in back-to-back WCHA games this season.
- UAH has won at least one game in three road WCHA series in 2018-19.
- This is the first time the Huskies have been shutout since a 4-0 loss at Northern Michigan on Nov. 11, 2017, and the first time at home since March 11, 2017.
- Newton's goal was his first career point.

Next Time Out
- UAH goes for the series sweep at Michigan Tech at 6:07 p.m. CT on Saturday.
