Chargers Open GSC Play with Pair of Tough Setbacks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team opened conference play on Saturday, falling 5-3 to Lee before dropping a 5-4 decision to Delta State. The Chargers move to 8-4 (0-2 Gulf South Conference) on the year.

-UAH will wrap up play at the GSC Opening Weekend Festival on Sunday when the team takes on West Georgia at 2:30 p.m.

-The Flames scored three times in the top of the seventh to complete the comeback.

-Reagan Malone went 3-for-4 in the contest to lead the Chargers, driving in a pair of runs.
-Also tallying an RBI was Shelby Booker.
-Lee outhit the Chargers by a 12-6 margin.
-Kiara Akles took the loss in the circle, going 6.2 innings while striking out seven.

-After Lee went ahead 1-0 in the top of the second, the Chargers with three in the bottom half as Booker singled in a run before Malone drove in a pair later in the inning.
-The Flames then pulled within one at 3-2 after scoring in the sixth and then pushed past UAH in the seventh with three runs.

-Booker, Malone, and Amber Hammonds all drove in a run for the Chargers.

-Layton Murphy was charged with the loss in the circle as she struck out two in the contest.

­-The Chargers got on the board first in the top of the first when Malone stole home, and UAH would tack onto its lead with an RBI single by Hammonds in the top of the third.
