UAH Stumbles in Extras at AUM on Friday Night

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team took a tough loss on Friday night, falling 5-4 in eight innings at Auburn Montgomery in the team's first true road game of the season. UAH slips to 9-5 (1-3 Gulf South Conference), while AUM improves to 6-2 (3-1 GSC).

Game Changer
-With a runner at second and one out in the bottom of the eighth, AUM's Hannah Dailey doubled in Gracie Harris for the game-winning run.

Inside the Box Score
-Hits in the contest were even at five, and Shannon Long went 2-for-3 to lead the Chargers.
-Brooke Miller, Jada Hayes, and Ashley Cornell had the other hits for UAH, and the hit for both Hayes and Cornell was a double.
-Hayes drove in a pair of runs, while Miller and Cornell also picked up RBI in the game.
-Layton Murphy took the loss in the circle as she went the distance, working around five hits while walking seven and giving up five runs of which only two were earned.
-Chanel Newcomer pitched 4.1 perfect innings to earn the win in relief for AUM.

Key Plays
-AUM got on the board first, scoring in home half of the first inning, but the 1-0 lead would not last long as small ball led to the Chargers tying the contest in the top of the second as Taylor Wascavage walked to start the inning, moved to second on a single by Long and then to third on a sac bunt from Miller, allowing her to score on a productive groundout by Hayes.
-The score would remain that way until the fourth inning when the Chargers would go on a two-out rally that featured four straight hits including an RBI single from Miller before Hayes and Cornell both doubled in runs to make it 4-1 in favor of UAH.
-The Warhawks got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the fourth and then scored twice in the sixth to tie it before winning it in the eighth.

Noteworthy
-The double by Hayes is her third of the season which is tied for second on the squad, and she now has driven in eight runs.
-Hayes is also tied for the team lead with 12 runs scored.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader at AUM on Saturday. The twin-billing is set for a 1 p.m. start.
