MARQUETTE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team's 2017-18 campaign came to a close on Sunday evening with a 5-2 loss in game three of the WCHA quarterfinal round at No. 19 Northern Michigan at the Berry Events Center. UAH finishes the season at 12-23-2, while NMU improves to 23-13-2 and advances to the WCHA semifinals.

Turning Point
- With UAH leading 2-1 in the second period, Northern Michigan closed out the period with three unanswered goals – including two on a five-minute major power play – which propelled the hosts to a 4-2 lead en route to a series-clinching 5-2 win over the Chargers.

- Northern Michigan jumped on the board first with a goal by Denver Pierce at 2:45 of the third.
- UAH responded at 10:54 when Huntsville native
Josh Kestner struck for his 24th goal of the season, thanks to an assist from
Tyler Poulsen.
- The Chargers pulled ahead 55 seconds into the second period as
Max McHugh tipped in a shot by
Kurt Gosselin from the blue line on the power play. Both Gosselin and
Jordan Larson notched helpers on the go-ahead goal.
- However, the Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 at 6:41 on a goal by Michael Slattery before both Troy Loggins and Pierce scored on the major power play at 13:11 and 14:58, respectively, to make it a 4-2 lead.
- NMU capped off its scoring effort with a shorthanded, empty-net goal by Loggins at 19:38 of the third.

- In his career, Kestner has scored 44 goals to rank sixth in program history while his 68 career points are tied for 13th in the Chargers modern Division I era.
- McHugh ends his four-year career at UAH with 70 points on 30 goals and 40 assists, and he'll finish his tenure at UAH ranked tied for 11th in the program's modern Division I era in career points.
- Poulsen's 17 assists this season are the most by a UAH player since Brandon Roshko had 17 as well in 2007-08.
- The Chargers 12 wins in the 2017-18 season are the most in the program's WCHA tenure and the highest win total since the 2009-10 season when UAH went 12-18-3.
