UAH Ties 1-1 in Series Finale at LSSU, Nabs Extra WCHA Point in Shootouts

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team rebounded with a 1-1 tie that included a shootout win for an extra WCHA point over No. 18 Lake Superior State on Saturday night at Taffy Abel Arena to wrap up the weekend series. UAH moves to 4-19-1 (4-11-1-1 WCHA), while LSSU stands at 14-6-2 (9-5-2-0).
 
Turning Point
- The Chargers appeared on the brink of victory with a power-play tally by Madison Dunn at the midway point of the third period that made it 1-0 UAH, but LSSU's Brendan McKay slipped in a goal at 18:03 of the third to force overtime which officially ended in a 1-1 tie.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- Both sides went scoreless in the first and second periods, as UAH goaltender Mark Sinclair posted 25 saves and LSSU's netminder had 16 stops through 40 minutes at Abel Arena.
- Just after the midway point of the third period Dunn put UAH up 1-0 on the power play at the 10:28 mark, thanks to assists by Connor James and Jack Jeffers.
- LSSU evened up the contest at 18:03 on McKay's tally to force overtime.
- Both UAH and LSSU went scoreless in the regulation overtime period, forcing a 3-on-3 overtime frame in which both squads went scoreless again to send the game to shootouts to decide an additional WCHA point.
- After LSSU came up empty on its second shootout attempt, senior Jesper Öhrvall provided a successful attempt to give UAH its first WCHA overtime point of the season.

- UAH totaled 30 shots on goal in the matchup, paced by Kurt Gosselin with a team-high eight shots on goal.
