UAH Tops Northern Michigan 4-2 to Open Series at VBC

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team picked up its first victory of the season with a 4-2 win over visiting Northern Michigan on Friday night at the Von Braun Center. UAH improves to 1-11-1 (1-7-1 WCHA), while NMU slips to 7-6-2 (5-4-0 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- The Chargers dominated the first period with three unanswered goals in the opening stanza, which helped the squad to the 4-2 win on Friday night.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- After 10 full scoreless minutes to open the game, UAH went on the board at 11:26 when Daneel Lategan slipped in a shot from the crease after a give-and-go breakaway with Brandon Salerno. Both Salerno and Connor Wood notched assists on the goal.
- UAH pushed ahead to 2-0 at 13:59 of the first with a goal by Tyr Thompson off an assist by Connor Merkley, as the Chargers went on to take a 3-0 lead on Josh Latta's goal at 15:35.
- Northern Michigan cut the Chargers lead to 3-1 with a power-play tally by Griffin Loughran at 6:22 of the second period.
- UAH notched an empty-net goal at 19:01 of the third period by Wood who received a feed off the boards from Merkley.
- The Wildcats added one late goal in the third period at 19:28 by Grant Loven to bring the game to its 4-2 final score.
