UAH Ties Alaska Anchorage in Series Opener at VBC

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Alaska Anchorage on Friday night at the Von Braun Center in the first game of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series, with the Seawolves nabbing the extra league point in shootouts. UAH moves to 0-8-1 (0-4-1-0 WCHA), while UAA sits at 0-4-2 (1-1-1-1 WCHA).
 
Turning Point
- UAH turned in a two-goal third period with goals by Jack Jeffers and Dayne Finnson which knotted the game at 4-4, as UAA would go on to grab the extra WCHA point in shootouts after two scoreless overtime periods.
 
Scoring Breakdown
- The Chargers were first on the board just 34 seconds into the contest as Josh Latta scored on a breakaway opportunity for the early 1-0 lead.
- Alaska Anchorage evened the game at 1-1 at 10:15 of the first on a goal by Drake Glover, which would be the score through 20 minutes of play.
- The Seawolves pushed their lead to 2-1 at the 2:34 mark of the second on a marker by Tanner Schachle, but UAH tied the contest back up at 2-2 as Christian Rajic sent home a rebound at 8:46 of the frame. Both Bailey Newton and Austin Beaulieu had assists on Rajic's tally.
- UAA went on to add two more goals in the second period by Jared Nash at 13:02 and Taylor Lantz at 16:55 to give the visitors at 4-2 lead at second intermission.
- UAH cut the deficit to 4-3 at 1:32 of the third period as Jack Jeffers scored for the Chargers thanks to helpers from Rajic and Latta.
- The Chargers tied the game at 4-4 at 11:48 of the third period as Dayne Finnson connected on a one-timer off assists by Jeffers and Rajic.
- Both sides went scoreless in the first overtime period to make it an official 4-4 tie, as the teams went scoreless again in the ensuing 3-on-3 overtime before Alaska Anchorage grabbed the extra WCHA point in the second round of shootouts.
