HUNTSVILLE | The No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team picked up a series victory in its first Gulf South Conference set of the season, beating Shorter 13-7 in game one of Monday's doubleheader before falling 9-1 in the nightcap. UAH is now 12-6 (2-1 Gulf South Conference), while the Hawks go to 9-6 (3-2 GSC).

Game Changer
-A six-run fourth inning turned a two-run deficit into a four-run, 11-7 lead that the Chargers would not relinquish.

-The Hawks grabbed the first lead with a run in the first, but a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning allowed Malone to score and tie the game at 1-1.
-Though the guests would immediately regain their one-run lead with a score in the top of the second, two straight walks and a single loaded the bases for Long who homered to left center to put the Chargers up 5-2.
-Shorter tallied another run in the third to make it 5-3, and a three-run homer and a solo shot in the top of the fourth put the Hawks back up by a 7-5 score.
-The Chargers were not deterred, however, stringing together six straight singles including a game-tying, two-run base hit from Malone along with a go-ahead run-scoring knock from Hayes that put UAH ahead for good.
-A bases-loaded walk by
Mackenzie Nutt, a productive ground out by
Amber Hammonds, and another wild pitch that allowed Hayes to score provided the Chargers with an 11-7 advantage by the time the fourth was over, and the two-run jack down the left field line by Hayes in the bottom of the sixth created the 13-7 finale.

-Payton Lippert did not allow UAH to record a hit in the contest in helping Shorter salvage a game in the series with the 9-1 victory.
