HUNTSVILLE | The No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Lee on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park, winning 3-2 in the series opener before securing an 11-6 victory in the nightcap. UAH improves to 19-6 (7-1 Gulf South Conference) while pushing its winning streak to seven games, and the Lady Flames slip to 10-13 (1-6 GSC).

-The two teams will wrap up the series on Monday morning, and first pitch in that one is slated for 11 a.m.

Game Changer
-In a contest that featured a total of nine hits, Ashley Cornell had a big one early as her two-run single in the top of the first proved to be a key difference in the ballgame.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Lee outhit the Chargers by a 5-4 margin, and each of UAH's hits came from a different player as each of Reagan Malone, Shelby Booker, Jada Hayes, and Cornell had base hits for UAH.
-The Chargers also drew four walks including a pair from Taylor Wascavage, and she parlayed those free passes into a pair of stolen bases.
-Kiara Akles earned the win in the circle, going 6.2 innings while scattering the five hits while striking out three and allowing the two runs.
-Sydnee Uhlman got the final out, picking up a save in relief.

-After Akles stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first, UAH got on the board in the bottom half as Cornell drove in Malone and Booker who had reached earlier in the inning.
-An error in the bottom of the second on a double steal in the bottom of the second led to UAH's third run as Wascavage stole third and scampered home on a miscue but the Lee catcher to make it 3-0.
-The score remained that way until the seventh when a two-run, two-out single for the Lady Flames made it a 3-2 game before Uhlman entered the contest and got the last out.
 
Noteworthy
-Akles moves to 4-1 on the year in the circle, while Uhlman earns her fifth save of the season.
-Wascavage is now a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts this season.

Game Changer
-UAH scored six times in the third inning thanks to three run-scoring doubles and a three-run jack from Akles, giving the hosts valuable cushion in the contest.

-The Chargers racked up 11 hits in the game compared to Lee's 10, and six of those came from Hayes and Cornell both had three in the contest.
-Akles led UAH with the three RBI off the home run, while each of Hayes, Cornell, and Amber Hammonds drove in a pair.

-Lee opened the scoring in the first inning, pushing across a run, but a double steal including a steal of home by Booker in the first before a Cornell run-scoring single plated Hammonds to make it 2-1 in favor of the Chargers.
-The score stayed that way until the bottom of the third when Booker, Hayes, and Cornell all doubled in a run, and Akles made it 8-1 in favor of UAH when she hit her three-run homer to left.
-The Lady Flames had a response, scoring four times in the top of the fourth to pull within three at 8-5, but UAH would get one of those runs back on a sac bunt by Hammonds in the home half that scored Malone to put the Chargers ahead 9-5.
-A scoreless fifth followed, and though Lee would plate a run to make it 9-6 in its at-bat in the sixth, Hayes doubled in a run and scored on a Hammonds sac fly in the bottom frame to create the eventual 11-6 final.
-The Chargers ended the game in style defensively, turning a 4-6-3 double play for the final outs of the contest.

-Cornell now has 21 RBI on the season after totaling four on the day, and that pushes her into the team lead.
-Booker has hit safely in eight straight now, and she is pacing the team with a .531 batting average.
