No. 16 Chargers Earn Series Sweep of Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS | The No. 16 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team made it a clean sweep of Christian Brothers, picking up a pair of road victories in winning 15-2 and 11-3 on Saturday. The Chargers improve to 15-6 (5-1 Gulf South Conference) with the pair of wins, while CBU falls to 5-15 (0-9 GSC).

-The Chargers will be back at Charger Park for five games starting with a doubleheader on Tuesday against Tuskegee. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Game Changer
-Amber Hammonds was one of five different Chargers to drive in multiple runs, leading the way with four RBI on three hits while also scoring three times as the guests cruised to the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH pounded out 15 hits with 10 different Chargers recording at least one including Hammonds with the three, and Alaina Hampton, Jada Hayes, and Shelby Booker who each had a pair.
-Six hits were for extra bases with Hayes having a pair of doubles in addition to one each from Eve Mallard, Hampton, and Hammonds, and Hampton also added a home run.
-Hampton finished the contest with three RBI, while Mallard, Hayes, and Ashley Cornell each drove in a pair.
-Hayes matched Hammonds with three runs, while both Reagan Malone and Booker scored twice.
-UAH totaled six stolen bases in the victory with Booker swiping a team-best two bags.
-Ava Jacobs earned the victory in the circle, going the distance while scattering four hits and two runs across the five innings.
 
Key Plays
-UAH immediately got on the board with Hammonds singling in a pair and Hampton driving in another on a double in the first to make it 3-0.
-The Chargers proceeded to take a firm grasp on the contest by putting up a six-spot in the top of the second to go ahead 9-0 thanks to a two-run single from Cornell, run-scoring from doubles from Hayes and Hammonds, and a two-run blast by Hampton.
-Christian Brothers had a solo homer in the third to make it 9-1, but the Chargers put another six runs on the board in the top of the fourth including a two-run double from Mallard that made it 15-1.
-Another solo shot from the hosts in the bottom of the fourth completed the scoring in the 15-2 game.
 
Noteworthy
-Jacobs earns her first win at UAH, moving to 1-0 on the season.
-Hampton's home run is her second of the season, and she now has 16 RBI on the year.
-Malone has four doubles on the season.

Game Changer
-Hammonds followed up the first game with another strong showing, blasting a pair of pair home runs to drive in three runs in helping lead the Chargers to the series sweep.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers racked up 16 hits compared to eight for CBU in the nightcap, and Shelby Booker paced the guests with a 4-for-4 showing, while each of Hammonds, Cornell, Hampton, and Kiara Akles had a pair.
-Seven of the UAH hits were for extra bases with Booker, Cornell, Hampton, Akles, and Taylor Wasavage recording a double in addition to the pair of home runs from Hammonds.
-Cornell and Shannon Long both drove in a pair of runs, while Hammonds, Long, and Malone each scored twice.
-Sydnee Uhlman earned the complete game victory in the circle for the Chargers, scattering the eight hits and allowing just three runs while striking out four and walking one over the seven innings.
 
Key Plays
-UAH again wasted no time jumping ahead, scoring four times in the first thanks to a productive ground out from Cornell along with a run-scoring bunt single off the bat of Hayes before Hammonds hit a two-run bomb to make it 4-0.
-The Chargers went ahead 5-0 in the second when Malone grounded out while driving in Long, and a solo shot from Hammonds in the third put UAH in front 6-0.
-CBU cut the deficit in half, scoring twice in the third and again in the fourth to make it a 6-3 game, but the Chargers got all three of those runs back in the fifth when Long singled up the middle to plate a pair before an infield single from Booker created a 9-3 score.
-An Akles RBI single in the sixth and a one-run Cornell double in the seventh produced the 11-3 final.
 
Noteworthy
-With the seven RBI in the two games, Hammonds doubled her season RBI total as she now has 14 on the year, and she is now tied for second on the team with three home runs.
-With her second four-hit game of the season, Booker's batting average goes back over .500 to .529.
-Uhlman is now 5-0 on the year in the circle.
-Malone and Booker have both scored 25 times to pace the team.
