10/28/2020 3:59:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics Dr. Cade Smith have announced promotions for staff members Julie Woltjen, Laura Taube, and Taylor Flatt.

Woltjen is elevated to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, Taube is lifted to the role of Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations and remains the Senior Woman Administrator, and Flatt is now the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications.

The three have been at UAH for a combined 71 years.

"The commitment from each of these staff members to UAH and our student-athletes is unmatched," Dr. Smith said. "In these three alone, there are more than 70 years of institutional knowledge, and that is something that is often underrated. I am proud to work with each of them and know that they will continue to help the growth of our student-athletes, staff, and athletic department!"

Woltjen has been at UAH since 1986, starting her tenure as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Sports Information before transitioning to the Director of Athletics Compliance, a position she held for over 20 years prior to her current promotion. While at UAH, she also served as the department's first-ever SWA for more than five years and led the men's and women's tennis programs for 10 seasons, leading several teams to the NCAA tournament.

In her current role, Woltjen is responsible for NCAA rules and regulations at UAH and prepares numerous NCAA-required documents and reports. She is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance, an affiliate member of the National Collegiate Director of Athletics Association, and holds NAAC educational certification as a professional administrator.

During her time in Huntsville, Woltjen has served two stints on the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee for tennis in the South Region.

Taube joined the Chargers in 1994 as the head volleyball coach, a stint that saw her named the GSC Coach of the Year twice and reach the NCAA tournament five times while winning nearly 400 games. Since stepping down from that role in 2013, Taube has led UAH's internal operations and has been the SWA since 2014.

Following her move into administration, Taube has served as the advisor to UAH's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and she is heavily involved in game management and scholarships among other duties essential to the internal goings on of the department.

Taube has chaired the Gulf South Conference's SWA Standing Committee for four years, and she has served on the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Committee as the chair of the South Region Advisory Committee since 2017-18.

In his 10-plus years at UAH, Flatt has guided the department through the transition into the digital era with a heavy concentration on establishing UAH's social media presence in addition to fostering relationships with traditional media outlets in the Huntsville market.

Flatt has also been instrumental in the media operations and preparation for game days across all of the department's sports and was a key member of the UAH administration for hosting the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Frozen Four, three NCAA Division II Men's Basketball South Regionals, two NCAA Division II Softball Regionals, and the 2014 NCAA Division II Softball South Super Regional.

A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, Flatt also has served as the first-ever chair of the GSC Athletics Communication Standing Committee in addition to a three-year stint on the league's Championships Committee. Additionally, he has served as the national chair for the D2SIDA Women's Basketball All-America program and currently serves as the regional chair for the D2SIDA Softball All-America program.
