JACKSON, Tenn. | The No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team closed out its weekend series with Union with a 6-1 victory on Sunday afternoon on the road. The Chargers improve to 9-6 (4-2 Gulf South Conference), while the Bulldogs fall to 11-6 (2-1 GSC).

Kaylee Vaught drove in a pair of runs including UAH's first of the game on a solo homer in the second to help pace the offense for the visitors in the win.

Inside the Box Score
-Union outhit the Chargers by an 8-7 margin, but the Bulldogs stranded nine runners on the afternoon.
-In addition to Vaught's two-hit game which also included a triple,
Ashley Cornell also had a pair of hits for the Chargers including a double and an RBI.
-Also recording a double and RBI was
Eve Mallard, while
Gracie Green drove in UAH's other run.
-Vaught scored three times in the contest as she also drew one of UAH's six walks in the contest, while Cornell crossed the plate twice.

Layton Murphy went the distance for the Chargers in the circle, scattering eight hits and allowing just one run while walking only one and striking out five.

Key Plays
-After a scoreless first inning, Vaught started the scoring in the contest when she homered to left, and the Chargers would go up by a pair when Cornell singled and scored on Mallard's two-bagger.
-The game would remain 2-0 in favor of the visitors through the middle innings with Murphy only giving up three hits in the middle four innings, allowing the Chargers to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth when Cornell doubled in Vaught and Green drove in Cornell.
-Union's lone run would come in the bottom of the sixth, but with the bases loaded and none out, Murphy would induce a ground ball for an out at home, a strikeout, and a grounder to third to keep the score 4-1 in favor of UAH.
-Vaught would triple to score
Shelby Booker who had walked to lead off the top half of the seventh, and on the play, Vaught scurried home on an error to create what would be the eventual 6-1 final as Murphy stranded a pair in the bottom frame.

Noteworthy
-Vaught becomes UAH's fourth player to reach double figures in RBI this season as she has 11 which is tied for third on the squad, and she hits her second homer and first triple of the year.
-Murphy moves to 3-0 on the year, lowering her ERA to 3.78, and the five strikeouts are the most for a Charger this season.
