No. 18 Chargers Drop Sunday Contest with No. 25 Saint Leo

VIERA, Fla. | The No. 18 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team wrapped up play in the Sunshine State on Sunday, falling 6-3 to No. 25 Saint Leo. The Chargers slip to 5-4, while the Lions improve to 7-2.

Game Changer
-Saint Leo scored four times in the fifth including three times with two outs to take a lead it would not let go of the rest of the way.

Inside the Box Score
-The Lions racked up 13 hits in the game while holding UAH to just four.
-Reagan Malone had two of UAH's hits as she went 2-for-3 from the top spot in the lineup while also scoring a run.
-Mackenzie Nutt also singled and scored as did Ashley Cornell.
-Each of Gracie Green, Malone, and Cornell recorded a stolen base.
-Layton Murphy started the contest for the Chargers in the circle, going 4.0 innings and scattering six hits while allowing three runs and striking out one.

Key Plays
-The Chargers jumped ahead early with Alaina Hampton forcing in the game's first run when she was hit by a pitch to plate Malone who had singled to start the contest, and an error later in the inning allowed Nutt to score to give UAH a 2-0 lead.
-After a scoreless second and third for both teams, another Saint Leo error in the fourth allowed UAH to add onto its lead as a double steal by Green and Cornell allowed Cornell to scamper home on the miscue.
-The Lions then got a two-out triple in their half of the fourth to pull within one at 3-2 before scoring four times in the fifth to go ahead.
-The Chargers would threaten in the sixth, getting two on with just one out before stranding them there, and the team was then retired in order in the seventh as SLU sealed the win.

Noteworthy
-This is Malone's second two-hit game of the young season.
-Malone has scored in seven of the team's nine games, tying her with Nutt, Cornell, and Shelby Booker for the team lead in runs scored with eight.
-The RBI for Hampton ties her with Nutt for the team lead with eight.

Next Time Out
