No. 24 Montevallo Slips Past UAH on Friday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell 2-1 to visiting No. 24 Montevallo in soggy conditions Friday night at Charger Park. UAH slips to 4-4-2 (2-3-1 Gulf South Conference), while UM improves to 9-2-1 (5-2-0 GSC).

UAH got on the board first before the heavens had opened up as Vicente Arratia set up Connor Young's strike in the fifth minute of the contest to put the Chargers ahead 1-0.

The strike is the third of the season for Young, and it is his third in four games for the senior who now leads UAH with seven points.

By the 18th minute a downpour had begun, and in the middle of the torrent, Montevallo would earn a penalty in the 23rd which Nemanja Acimovic scored to level the contest at 1-1, a scoreline that would hold through the halftime break.

Jonathan Guadarrama then scored in the 51st to put Montevallo ahead.

The Falcons then had a player sent off in the 78th minute, and UAH would nearly capitalize and find the equalizer with Ethan Wilson having two strong attempts on goal in the 89th and 90th minutes that the Montevallo keeper saved.

For the game, shots were tilted 9-8 in Montevallo's favor, but efforts on goal were even at five for both teams.

Young led UAH with three attempts, and both he and Wilson had a team-best two on target.

Ethan Haworth made three stops in goal for UAH.

The Chargers will aim to bounce back on Sunday when Auburn Montgomery visits Charger Park. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
