UAH Posts Five-Goal Outburst in Win Over LMU

HUNTSVILLE | Three Chargers scored their first collegiate goals, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team rolled to a 5-3 victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial in a contest that was not as close as the final score would indicate. UAH improves to 5-5-2 while snapping a three-match slide, and LMU falls to 1-11-2.

The Chargers wasted no time getting on the board as Connor Young scored in the fourth minute of the contest off assists from Macrus Astreos and Colby Nesbit, and Young would finish the day with a brace as he tallied from fellow senior Ethan Wilson in the 28th to make it a 2-0 lead.

Young now has a team-high five goals, and this is his first career multi-goal game and the first multi-goal game of the year by a Charger.

Nesbit now has a team-high three assists, Wilson earns his second, and the assist for Astreos represents his first collegiate point.

In other collegiate firsts, Justin Alacantara would give the Chargers a 3-0 lead in the 41st with his first score in the Blue and White, and his goal was set up by Sander van der Sluijs who ranks second on the team with seven points after logging his first assist of the season.

The Railsplitters would get on the board in the 55th, and the teams proceeded to trade goals for the rest of the half as Jose Bannwart scored his first goal as a Charger in the 62nd off an assist from Michael Weston and Eddy Harvey-Latham buried a penalty in the 79th for his first collegiate marker.

LMU also had goals in the 70th and 81st minutes to create the 5-3 final.

UAH outshot the visitors by a 18-14 margin including a 12-8 advantage in shots on target, as Giancarlo Martinez earned the win in goal for the Chargers while making four stops.

The five goals is the most for UAH since a 6-0 win over North Georgia on Sept. 20, 2019, and the Chargers move to 11-2-0 all-time at home against LMU as the two teams were meeting in Huntsville for the first time since Sept. 8, 2013, when UAH was a 3-2 overtime winner in the first-ever night game on the UAH campus.

UAH now turns its attention squarely to the conclusion of conference play as a key four-game stretch to end the regular season begins on Saturday in Birmingham against West Florida in a make-up contest against the Argos. Kick-off a the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.
