JACKSON, Tenn. | Extending its unbeaten streak to four, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team picked up an impressive 2-1 win over Union on the road Friday night. The Chargers improve to 4-2-2 (2-1-1 Gulf South Conference), while UU falls to 6-3-2 (3-3-1 GSC).
Â
The visiting side dominated the first half of play, outshooting the Bulldogs by a 13-4 margin including a 5-0 edge in attempts on target, and the Chargers would be rewarded for their efforts in the 43rd when
Ethan Wilson scored his first of the season to make it 1-0.
Â
Putting UAH up by a pair,
Connor Young would score his second in as many games in the 65th, and
Kieran Rowe assisted on the goal that pushed the Chargers in front by a 2-0 score.
Â
Young matches
Rafa Moreno and Sander van der Sluijs for the team lead with his pair of goals on the season, while Rowe joins
Colby Nesbit in leading the team with two assists.
Â
Union would end up building up a 7-5 edge in shots in the second half – and six of those attempts were on goal – and used that to cut the lead in half in the 78th minute, but
Ethan Haworth would make three of his five saves in the game's closing minutes to help preserve the win for his side.
Â
The Bulldogs did appear to earn the equalizer in the 90th minute, but the play was ruled offside to create the 2-1 final.
Â
With Friday night's victory, UAH has now won seven of the last nine meetings with Union.
Â
The Blue and White will look to continue its strong stretch on Sunday when the weekend road trip concludes in Memphis against Christian Brothers. That contest is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
