HUNTSVILLE | The No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team split its final day at the 2021 Charger Chillout, falling 13-9 to Union before beating Miles 12-3 in five innings. The Chargers move to 3-1 on the season.

-The Chargers will return to action next weekend in Oxford, Alabama, playing a trio of nonconference games beginning with a 4 p.m. contest against Tuskegee on Friday.
 
Union 13, UAH 9
Game Changer
-Union scored six times in the sixth to break what was at the time a 6-6 tie.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Hits in the contest were even at 15 for each team.
-Shelby Booker and Mackenzie Nutt helped lead UAH offensively with Booker going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs while Nutt was 2-for-4 and also had three RBI.
-One of Booker's hits was an inside-the-park homer, while both Reagan Malone and Kiara Akles had a triple in the contest.
-UAH stole six bases with Lila Young swiping a pair of bags.
-Grace O'Berry went 5.1 innings in taking the loss, and she struck out five in the outing.
 
Key Plays
-After Union went ahead 3-0 in the first, Nutt immediately pulled the Chargers back within one as she singled in a pair in the bottom half of the opening inning to make it 3-2.
-The Bulldogs pushed another across in the second to go ahead by a pair, but a Malone sacrifice in the second and another RBI single from Nutt in the third allowed Booker's two-run homer to put the Chargers ahead 6-4.
-Union would tie it back up in the fifth with a pair of runs and then had the big sixth to go back in front by a 12-6 score.
-Booker and Akles would both single in a run in the sixth before the Bulldogs scored their 13th and Kaylee Vaught drove in a run in the seventh to produce the 13-9 final.

-The home run is the second of Booker's career.

Game Changer
-UAH sent 12 to the plate and scored eight times in the second to take complete control of the game.
 
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers racked up 14 hits compared to just four for Miles.
-Heather Thompson and Eve Mallard both recorded three hits in the game with Mallard driving in a pair of runs.
-Each of Mallard, Akles, Heather Phillips, and Carlie Monsour drove in a pair of runs. 
-Twelve of the 14 hits for UAH were singles as Monsour had a double and Gracie Green had a triple.
-Gracie Deaton tossed the final 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four to earn the win in the circle.
 
Key Plays
-The Golden Bears opened the scoring with a run in the first, but the Chargers would respond in the bottom of the second with the eight-run inning that was keyed by Monsour's double that drove in a pair of runs and a two-run single from Akles.
-A couple of runs in the top of the third pulled Miles back within five at 8-3, but a run would score when Vaught reached on an error in the third, and UAH would end the game with an RBI single from Mallard and a two-run single from Phillips in the fifth to create the 12-3 final.
 
Noteworthy
-Thompson finishes the weekend with a .714 average at the plate as she totaled 10 hits.
-Vaught turned in an impressive 12 RBI on the weekend to lead the team.
-As a team, the Chargers batted .517 for the four games.
