SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team concluded the 2020-21 campaign on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to No. 18 Lake Superior State in game two of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association postseason tournament quarterfinal round. UAH ends the season at 3-18-1, while LSSU improves to 17-6-3.

Both sides went scoreless in the first period, before Lake Superior State scored a total of three times in the stanza beginning 18 seconds in with a goal by Louis Boudon. LSSU went on to add goals in the second period at 7:15 by William Riedell and 10:25 by Hampus Eriksson to put the hosts up 3-0 heading to second intermission.

The Lakers pushed their lead to 4-0 at the 13:20 mark of the third period with a marker by Brandon Puricelli. UAH ended the hosts shutout bid at 17:48 of the third period when a
Mick Heneghan slapshot found the net on the power play. Both
Connor Merkley and
Brian Scoville notched assists on the play.

LSSU went on to wrap up game two of the WCHA postseason series with the 4-1 win, as the Lakers advance to the conference semifinals next Friday.

David Fessenden started in goal for the Chargers on Saturday, as the sophomore allowed four goals and made 31 saves. This was his sixth 30-plus save performance this season, despite his record dropping to 3-11-1 on the season.

Heneghan led the roster with his lone goal, which was the first marker of his collegiate career. Both Merkley and Scoville notched their second assists of the season.

UAH accrued 17 shots on goal as a team, led by
Bennett Stockdale and Scoville with three apiece.

The WCHA postseason continues next Friday and Saturday, with the semifinals on Friday followed by the WCHA Championship game on Saturday.
