HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team captured the program's second Gulf South Conference Championship with a 17-6 victory over Young Harris in the tournament finals on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. UAH improves to 12-3, while YHC dips to 5-8.

The Chargers had four players named to the GSC All-Tournament Team, including
Shaina Doser,
Katie Gerber,
Hailey Gallant and
Isadora Springer. Springer – a freshman – additionally was named the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Gerber led the Chargers overall on Sunday afternoon with a team-high nine points on five goals and four assists to go along with a roster-best seven draw ground balls and four draw controls.

Springer rated second on the squad with six points from five goals and one assists, followed by Gallant with five points on three goals and two assists. Brown also had a multi-point performance with a pair of goals.

Doser played the full time in goal for the Chargers, as she earned the win with seven saves and six goals allowed.

Overall in the win, UAH held the edge over Young Harris in shots on goal (26-13), ground balls (28-15) and draw controls (13-10).

UAH opened up the contest with a 5-1 lead in the first 15 minutes, until Young Harris cut the advantage to 7-5 at halftime after scoring the last two goals of the frame.

Both sides scored one goal in the initial three minutes of the second half, before the Chargers went on a 9-0 run to close out the contest for the 17-6 victory on Sunday.

The Chargers victory on Sunday gives the program a 4-0 home record in 2021, as the squad is now on a nine-game home win streak dating back to April 7, 2019.

This conference championship is the fourth by the UAH Department of Athletics in 2020-21, with Men's Cross Country, Men's Basketball and Volleyball earning previous GSC titles.
