HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team cruised to victory in the Gulf South Conference Championship semifinal game, defeating four-seeded Lander 19-9 to advance to the title game on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers move on in the postseason, improving to 10-6 on the season, while LU finishes the year at 10-8.
Â
Cara Brown put her name in the conference record books, tallying the second-most goals in a GSC tournament game, with six goals on the evening to lead all players on both sides. Brown now has 68 goals for the season and is just nine goals shy of 200 career goals, sitting with 191.
Â
Hailey Gallant netted four goals and added an assist for a five-point performance while
Katie Gerber and
Isadora Springer each recorded a trio of goals in the contest for UAH.
Â
Shaina Doser recorded four saves playing the majority of minutes in between the pipes for the Blue & White.
Â
With a trip to Sunday's title game on the line, the Chargers stampeded out of the gates, putting up seven goals in the opening quarter while holding the Bearcats scoreless to hold a 7-0 advantage at the first break and another seven-goal period from the top-seeded Chargers in the following quarter made the score line read 14-4 at the halftime whistle.Â
Â
Again, UAH would not allow Lander to put up any goals, shutting out the Bearcats in the third frame, and although the visitors would score five in the final quarter, the Blue & White was out of sight at that point, claiming the 19-9 victory.
Â
The hosts outshot Lander 35-19 throughout the contest and narrowly won the battle in the ground ball department by a 24-22 margin.
Â
UAH will now look ahead to Sunday when the team takes on Flagler in the GSC Women's Lacrosse Championship title game at Charger Park.
Â
Sunday's championship game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
