FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team began the 2023 season with a 3-1 victory followed by a 4-1 loss at Nova Southeastern on Friday afternoon in nonconference action.

Sophomore
Megan Shurtz went the distance in the circle for game one on Friday, as she allowed one run – unearned – while striking out two. She improves to 1-0 in her seventh career complete game.

Lawren Hayes guided the Chargers offense with a pair of RBI singles as she went 2-for-3 on the day. Hayes was one of two players with RBI singles in the go-ahead second inning and later added an insurance run in the second on her second run-scoring single of the day.

Sadie Thompson also drove in a run on an RBI single in the two-run second inning.

Kinley Adams helped set the table at the top of the lineup, as she drew three walks in four trips to the plate on Friday.

UAH has now started its season with a win in four consecutive campaigns.

NSU 4, UAH 1
UAH had the first lead after
Jada Henderson notched an RBI single to center in the first inning, but NSU registered a four-run rally in the bottom of the second to propel the Sharks to the win.

Grace O'Berry was strong in relief with 4.1 scoreless innings, zero walks and three strikeouts.
