No. 7 UAH Splits Doubleheader Saturday with West Georgia

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 7 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team split a doubleheader against visiting West Georgia at Charger Park with a 11-10 loss in game one followed by an 9-1 win in five innings in game two. UAH moves to 24-5 (11-2 GSC), while UWG's record sits at 7-24 (3-11 GSC).

UAH and West Georgia wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at noon at Charger Park.

UWG 11, UAH 10
The Chargers nearly came from behind to win the series-opener with a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, but the Wolves were able to fend off the comeback effort for the 11-10 win.

Laura Harbin highlighted the Chargers offense with a 2-for-2 performance off of the bench with five RBI, as she smacked a two-run homer in the sixth and a three-run homer in the seventh. She is now tied for the team lead with four home runs in 2023.

UAH notched a total of four round-trippers in the opening game, as Lawren Hayes had a solo shot in the fifth and Maddie Cartron had a two-run blast in the seventh-inning rally. The Chargers four home runs in the game are the most by the team this season.

Megan Shurtz took the loss in game one, as she started and hurled 3.2 innings with four earned runs allowed and two strikeouts. She slips to 7-2 this season.

UAH 9, UWG 1 (Five innings)
The Chargers and Wolves were locked in a 1-1 tie through the third as both starting pitchers were strong in the early going, until a two-RBI single by Gracie Green in the fourth put UAH ahead for good on the way to the 9-1 win in five innings in the night cap.

Lila Young posted a team-high three RBI in the victory, as her 1-for-2 day at the plate was highlighted by a three-run triple as part of the six-run fifth inning.

Harbin drew a team-high three walks, as she reached base in all five of her plate appearances Friday.

UAH had nine base hits in the contest, led by Kinley Adams, Kaylee Vaught and Sadie Thompson with two apiece. Vaught additionally stole a team-best three bases in the win.

Katie Bracken stymied the Wolves across 5.0 innings in the circle to improve to 9-0 this season, as she allowed one earned run and two hits while striking out four on the day.
