CLEVELAND, Miss. | The No. 5 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team opened up a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Delta State with a doubleheader sweep by scores of 9-1 and 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. UAH improves to 27-5 (14-2 GSC), while DSU slides to 11-24 (5-12 GSC).

UAH benefitted from a seven-run rally in the third along with a strong 5.0 innings from
Megan Shurtz to tally the first win of the weekend by a final score of 9-1.

The Chargers registered 11 base hits in the victory, led by
Kinley Adams,
Maddie Cartron and
Sadie Thompson with two base hits apiece. Adams additionally scored a team-high two runs, while Thompson tied with
Jada Henderson for a roster-leading two RBI.

Maddie Cartron, and Lauren Hayes each recorded a double in the series-opener.

Megan Shurtz tossed the full 5.0 innings to earn the win and improve to 8-2 this season. Shurtz allowed one unearned run while striking out three Statesmen.

The Chargers scored all four of their runs in the initial five innings, which carried UAH to the 4-1 victory in game two on Saturday for the doubleheader sweep.
