PENSACOLA, Fla. | The UAH softball team returned to Gulf South Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader split at West Florida with a 5-4 win in game one followed by a 9-8 loss to open a three-game series. UAH moves to 14-6 (2-3 GSC), while UWF's record now stands at 12-8 (1-4 GSC).

UAH 5, UWF 4
The Chargers never trailed in their return to GSC play, as UAH went ahead early with one run apiece in the first three innings that guided the Blue & White to the win over the Argonauts.

Maddie Cartron had a stellar game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBI, as she smacked a solo home run in the fifth after previously driving in a run on a single in the first.

Cartron's homer was her third of the season.

Laura Harbin also notched a solo home run in the win in the top of the third, while
Alexa Douthitt went 2-for-4 with one double to give UAH three extra-base hits.

Katie Bracken worked her seventh complete game of the season, allowing three earned runs over 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts. She picked up the win to improve to 7-0 in 2024.

UWF 9, UAH 8
The Chargers rallied for three runs to break a 5-5 tie in the top of the sixth, but the Argonauts rebounded with a three-run rally of their own followed by a game-winning run in the seventh to take the night cap 9-8.

UAH's offense utilized the long ball for all eight of its runs in game two on Saturday, as
Sadie Thompson cranked a three-run blast in the second,
Alexa Douthitt hit a two-run homer in the fourth and
Maddie Cartron notched a three-run round-tripper in the sixth.

Douthitt and Cartron are now tied for the team lead with four home runs apiece, while Thompson registers her second homer of the season.

Lawren Hayes led the Chargers with two base hits out of the lead-off spot, as UAH totaled eight hits and five walks in the night cap.

Josie Thompson started in the circle for the Chargers, turning in 3.2 innings with four runs allowed and two strikeouts for a no-decision.

Jessie Cole took the loss in relief to drop to 1-1 this season.
