HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team returned to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday at Charger Park with a doubleheader sweep of Montevallo by scores of 4-0 and 14-6 to open a three-game series. UAH improves to 22-9 (8-6 GSC), while UM slides to 16-14 (9-5 GSC).

UAH 4, UM 0
Katie Bracken – backed by three early runs in the second – led the Chargers to the 4-0 victory with her fifth complete-game shutout of the season over the Falcons in game one. The Decatur, Alabama, racked up 11 strikeouts with two hits allowed over her 7.0-inning performance.

Kylee Smith provided the Chargers with the early offense with a three-run home run to the opposite field for her second round-tripper in 2024. She becomes the seventh UAH player with two or more homers this season.

Lawren Hayes posted a team-high two hits out of the leadoff spot, as she notched her fourth triple of the season in the contest.

UAH 14, UM 6
The Chargers offense was hot in game two of the afternoon doubleheader on the UAH campus with four or more runs in three out of the four innings the Blue & White went to bat in the 14-6 victory.

UAH boasted three players with one home run and one double apiece against Montevallo, including
Sadie Thompson,
Alexa Douthitt and
Kaylee Vaught.

Douthitt notched her team-leading 11th home run in the win, while Thompson moves into second on the UAH roster with seven home runs and Vaught collects her fourth round-tripper of 2024.

The Chargers have recorded at least three home runs as a team six times so far this season.

A total of five UAH players had multi-hit performances, led by Douthitt with a 3-for-5 day at the plate with three runs and a team-best five RBI.

Josie Thompson earned the win in relief to improve to 6-5 this season, after tossing the final 2.1 innings with no runs allowed and two strikeouts.
