Softball's Run at GSC Tournament Ends with Loss to No. 2 Seed AUM

OXFORD, Ala. | The UAH softball team's run at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Softball Championships came to a close with an 11-3 loss in the GSC tournament quarterfinals to second-seeded Auburn Montgomery after winning 1-0 over West Alabama in an elimination game to start the day. UAH slides to 39-16, while AUM improves to 39-11.

The Chargers now await their fate within the South Region with the NCAA Division II Softball Championships selection show slated for 9 a.m. CT on Monday. UAH was most recently ranked 10th in the South Region on Wednesday prior to the start of the GSC tournament.

Game one: UAH 1, UWA 0
Katie Bracken was sensational in the circle for the Chargers, hurling her third career no-hitter and the 30th in UAH softball program history in the 1-0 win over fifth-seeded West Alabama.

The Decatur, Alabama, native limited West Alabama to zero hits across the full 7.0 innings, as Bracken tosses her sixth complete-game shutout as well. Bracken's no-hitter was the second UAH softball no-hitter in the GSC tournament.

She additionally struck out 11 Tigers in the matchup, which is the seventh time she's recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game this year.

Lawren Hayes provided Bracken with some early offense with an RBI triple in the top of the third.

Hayes' triple was her GSC-leading eighth triple of the season and 16th of her career, as she now ranks ninth in GSC history for career triples. She is now also tied for 14th amongst active career triples leaders in NCAA Division II.

Game two: AUM 11, UAH 3
The Warhawks went ahead with seven runs in the bottom of the first and maintained an advantage to an 11-3 win over the Chargers to advance to the GSC tournament title game Saturday.

Maddie Cartron slimmed the UAH deficit in the top of the second, connecting on a three-run homer for her 10th round-tripper of the year.

Bracken took the loss in the circle to drop her season record to 17-5, as she allowed five of the seven runs in the first inning.

This was UAH's 28th all-time appearance in the GSC tournament.
