HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The UAH softball team earned a 5-0 shutout victory over Lee on Friday afternoon at Les Stuedeman Field. UAH improves to 15-3 overall, while Lee falls to 5-10 on the season.
Behind a dominant outing from Megan Shurtz, the Chargers controlled the game from start to finish. Shurtz tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts to move to 6-1 on the year.
After a scoreless first inning, UAH broke through in the second when Baylee Darby singled to left field to score Hannah Temple for a 1-0 lead. The Chargers added another run in the third as Temple reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Alexa Douthitt and extend the advantage to 2-0.
UAH stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning behind an RBI single from Mia Brown that scored Allie Yeary. The Chargers put the game away in the sixth, as Lydia West drove in Kylee Smith on a fielder's choice before Douthitt followed with an RBI groundout to plate Brittany Slaten and make it 5-0.
Douthitt and Temple each collected two hits in the contest, while Darby also recorded two hits and an RBI. Smith finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored as UAH totaled 10 hits in the win.
Next up, UAH hosts Lee at Les Stuedeman Field for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Feb 21 at 12 p.m.
