HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | UAH softball dominated Lee University softball on Saturday at Les Stuedeman Field, completing a doubleheader sweep with scores of 6-0 and 11-3. The victories improved UAH to 17-3 on the season while dropping Lee to 5-12.
Game One: UAH 6, Lee 0
UAH took control early in the 6-0 win over the Flames. Brittany Slaten's speed on the basepaths and Allie Yeary's two-RBI home run in the first inning sparked a four-run frame that set the tone. Additional insurance runs came in the fifth inning as Kylie Ballentine and Kylee Smith drove in runs to secure the shutout.
Pitcher Katie Bracken was dominant, throwing all seven innings while allowing just five hits and striking out eight for her fifth win of the season. UAH totaled 10 hits in the game, highlighted by Slaten's 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored and Yeary's home run and double.
Game Two: UAH 11, Lee 3 (5 Inn.)
UAH fell behind 2-0 early but responded immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alexa Douthitt tripled to center to drive in Brittany Slaten, and a run scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Hannah Temple and Kylie Ballentine then contributed RBI hits to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead. UAH extended their advantage with a four-run fourth inning, including a Douthitt RBI single and a two-RBI double from Mia Brown. In the fifth, Temple hit a home run, Slaten scored on an inside-the-park home run, and Ballentine delivered a two-RBI double to drive in the winning runs, ending the game and securing the 11-3 victory.
UAH's pitching duo of Kennah Lacy and Megan Shurtz limited Lee to three runs on five hits while striking out four combined. Lacy earned her third win of the season, while Shurtz closed out the game with dominance.
Next up, the Chargers will travel to Valdosta, Ga., for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Valdosta State on February 28 at 12 p.m., followed by a single game on March 1 at 12 p.m.
