MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The UAH softball team dropped a Gulf South Conference doubleheader to Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday, falling 2-1 in game one before a 6-2 defeat in game two.
UAH moves to 21-12 overall and 7-6 in GSC play, while Auburn University at Montgomery improves to 25-4 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
Game One: UAH 1, AUM 2
The opening game was a pitcher's duel through five scoreless innings before UAH broke through in the sixth. Brittany Slaten singled to center field to drive in Alyssa Butts, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead.
AUM responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Rebecca Komers delivered a two-run home run to give the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage, which would remain the final score.
Katie Bracken turned in a strong performance in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.
Game Two: UAH 2, AUM 6
UAH struck first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kylee Smith tripled to left center to score Hannah Temple. Auburn University at Montgomery answered in the fourth inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Chargers evened the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mia Brown, but the Warhawks responded in the bottom half with three runs. Auburn University at Montgomery added another run in the sixth inning to secure the 6-2 victory.
Megan Shurtz took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings, while Katie Bracken provided relief in the final 1.1 innings.
UAH will look to bounce back on Saturday as they continue the series against the Warhwaks, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
