PENSACOLA, Fla. | The UAH softball team earned a dominant 4-0 victory over West Florida on Wednesday afternoon in the NCAA South Regional 2 at the UWF Softball Complex.
The Chargers struck first in the second inning, breaking through with a big two-out rally. With runners in scoring position, Baylee Darby linined a double to left field that cleared the bases and drove in three runs, giving UAH an early 3-0 lead.
UAH kept the pressure on and added insurance in the fourth inning when Kylee Smith launched a solo home run down the left field line, pushing the lead to 4-0 and putting the Chargers firmly in control.
West Florida struggled to find rhythm offensively, managing only three singles on the day while striking out nine times against Katie Bracken.
Darby led the offensive effort with her three-RBI double, while Keli Madden, Mia Brown, and Kylie Ballentine each turned in multi-hit performances as UAH finished with 10 hits in the win.
In the circle, Katie Bracken (16-10) earned the complete-game shutout victory. She allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and walked two.
UAH will return to action Friday in the NCAA South Regional against the winner of the matchup between Montevallo and West Alabama.
